After After all leaves are glued in place and the basket is pealed from the bowl, it should be placed inside the same bowl. Coat the bowl with plastic wrap before coating the inside of the leaf basket with either Mod Podge or epoxy.
Protect the bowl with plastic wrap and then use it as a form when applying Mod Podge or Epoxy to the glued in place leaves.
A plastic bowl is used a a form for the basket. A small drop of hot glue gun glue attaches the bottom layer to the plastic bowel. Use as little as possible because this glue has to be pealed off the bowl when lifting the lea basket free.
Leaf Basket used as a fruit bowl. Basket on left was made from real Fall leaves. Each leaf was sealed with a two part epoxy.
As a test we made baskets out of both real leaves as well as artificial leaves, available in any craft store. We found the best results by using artificial Fall Leaves and Mod Podge. If you really want to use real leaves we found the best results by coating each leaf with a two part pouring epoxy and then gluing the basket together with a hot glue gun.
Making a Leaf Basket either out of real or Faux Leaves is a great way to add some Fall color into your home decor. Check out the short video below which details the entire process. The video shows both Mod Podge and also the use of a two part epoxy for a more durable end result.
