Plexiglass LED Christmas Decoration
This illuminated self standing or wall hung Christmas decoration can be made in a variety of sizes. We started with a piece of 1/8 inch plexiglass. We drew out a tree design ontop of the protective coating. Then used a dremel grinder with a cut off wheel to grind a groove completely outlining the tree.
We then made a simple wood base with a groove wide enough to hold a strip of LED strip lights. The lights are held in place with glue from a hot glue gun. The LEDs are then connected to a 12 v power converter. We will detail working with LED strip light in a separate video but they are inexpensive easy to work with and give off some great lighting. We used Green LEDs for this project.
Once the outline is carved we used a grinding bit to grind away a thin layer of the entire tree. Basically using the dremmel grinder to color in the outline.
The Plexiglass sits on top of the LED lights and is also held in position with glue. The LED light shines up through the plexiglass and illuminates the carved out are of the Christmas Tree. This illuminated Christmas decoration was so easy to make we are already planning to make a variety of other designs including a snowman with white LED lights and a wall hanging decoration.
